I've got some catching up to do!!
As you can see I changed the name of my blog. Many of you may or may not know that I'm a feminist. I'm a proud to call myself one and I'm here to tell you not to believe those horrible sterotypes about us feminists. We aren't all lesbians or bra-burning crazy bitches! We actually have boyfriends, that maybe shocking for some of you, and guess what?? Even guys are feminists too! I'm totally blowing your mind here aren't I? Well enough of that..don't want to short circuit your brain in just one paragraph! If you are a feminist or are not really sure if you are or not, checkout http://www.feministing.com/ These ladies are amazing women and you should definitely check it out.
Now let's see, I know I haven't wrote in awhile and I'm sorry about that. It's crazy at my house and I didn't have internet for nearly a month!! Anyway my dad finally got his own camp, it's ours actually, but it's down in West Virginia and it's beautiful. Here's some pics of it:
Well ok, enough about me..As you may know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you didn't know that shame on you! Anyway, I don't know anyone personally diagnosed with breast cancer, I do know some "celebs" who have been diagnosed. In the coming weeks I'm going to write about two of my inspirations. Everyone tells you to check yourself monthly even weekly, well do it and if you do find a lump don't hide it, tell someone, go to your doctor.
Now onto the WNBA finals, Let's just get down to it..if you haven't been watching shame on you. But Detroit and San Antiono are in the finals..actually it ended tonight, Detroit kicked ass and Katie Smith took all the names..haha! She was named Finals MVP and Taj McWilliams-Franklin finally got her ring! One last thing Rookie guard Alexis Hornbuckle became the first WNBA player in history to win a NCAA Championship and a WNBA Championship! Congrats to the Detroit Shock on winning the 2008 WNBA Championship!
Lastly have you registered to vote yet? Well you may have ran out of time! Pennsylvania's deadline in Monday, which is tomorrow! Go to RocktheVote.com or DeclareYourself.com
Just vote! I will be writing more in the coming days! Well gotta go, all of you take care of yourselfs..PEACE OUT!!!
Remember the smiles are free,

Camping Trip 2008
Here is my sister's best friend Sam, Chelsea and me.
This is our bathroom
We even visited Farmer's Inn:
Needless to say we had fun. This camping trip post went a little longer than I expected so I'm going to write another telling what else I have to say: Including Abby breaking her leg and not scoring 100, the WNBA basketbrawl and what I think about it, and The olympics and where you can find the endless coverage. Talk to you later and remember that Diamonds aren't forever unless you're talking softball!!
Peace out,
Corey

TELEVISION: Okay so I'm sitting here watching tv so I thought about writing about the cool television shows I watch. My most favorite one is Lifetime's Army Wives. If you don't watch it you should watch it!! It's based on the lives of Army Wives (duh! I like being obvious) and the main characters are Claudia Joy Holden played by Kim Delany, Denise Sherwood played by Catherine Bell, Roxy LeBlanc played by Sally Pressman, and Pamela Moran played by Brigid Brannagh and also there is Joan Burton played by Wendy Davis and she is a Lieutenant Colonel. Anyway it's about the struggles the spouses face on a daily basis. Last season ended on a cliffhanger...the ladies and Roland were in the Hump Bar when an upset soldier threatens to blow the bar up and at the end Claudia Joy's oldest daughter Amanda walks in...then it was over. Well this season started with Pamela on her radio show and they told everyone there was three deaths in the bombing but you didn't know who. So in the episode Amanda and Claudia Joy were going to Amanda's college. At the end of the episode they have Claudia Joy and Amanda in her dorm room and she begins to cry, they have a little talk and at the end Claudia Joy says take a breath and then walk then it starts glowing. Now they are standing in what looks like a train station and they are talking and Claudia Joy goes "why did you go into that bar?" and Amanda responds, "For you mom, Show me the mother and I'll show you the child." Then she hugs her and tells her take care of her dad and her younger sister then she walks into the light...it was soo sad...AMANDA FREAKIN DIED!!! I was blawing my eyes out! Well now that I got you hooked you can tune into Army Wives every Sunday at 10pm then if for some sort of freak reason you miss it or just want to watch it again you can watch it on Monday nights at 8pm.
Well the pizza just came so I gotta go! You all a great 4th of July and remember stay safe. Well talk to you later and remember to join the Forum I told you about yesterday! here's the link if you forgot it: http://uswntsupportmovement.freeforums.org

USA!! USA!! USA!! and Olympic Fever!
I'm so very sorry that I haven't written in awhile. Let's see if I can remember what I have been doing since I last wrote. So I'm going to just tell you what I have been doing of late. I don't know if I mentioned this before but I'm a huge women's sports fan!! Haha well if you didn't know that before you do now!
Anyway yeah I think the US women's soccer team freaking rocks but they don't always, okay they never get the respect they deserve. So my friend Colleen decided we were finally going to take a stand. She started an online petition to help spread the word about the women's team. Here's the link to the petition if you haven't signed it yet: www.petitiononline.com/USWNT920/petition.html
So first off, awesome job Colleen and you should feel special because I gave you a shoutout!! woot! Anyway these women of the US soccer team have been a team since 1985 and we have seen some different players through the years but one thing we can always count on with this team is the winning factor. Yes its true we haven't won in the last two world cups but we are growing into a new era of players. We are learning the new faces like Natasha Kai, Hope Solo, Lori Chalupny and many more. I believe that if we actually got this women on the television we would realize how awesome or should I say good they are. So please help join the cause of spreading the word about this team...they are as good as..well they aren't very advertised, but they are good and when we are done with our movement you will understand everything. It's not to late to become a fan...go to games near you, buy jerseys, make your own jerseys, email sponsors and tell them what you want to see when making commercials..tell them what you think..they will actually listen, I have gotten very postive responses. Also email tv shows like Ellen, Good Morning America, The Today Show, Rachael Ray or whatever tv shows you can think of. Plus if you have a facebook please join our group...the USWNT Support Movement Starts Here...here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=12799639389
Lastly on the movement, we recently started a forum where fans can come and talk about the team or ways to help spread the word about the team. Here's the link: http://uswntsupportmovement.freeforums.org/ Come join everyone is welcome, but please bear with us because we are just getting it started.
Okay now onto some other stuff....The Olympics are coming up...YAY. I think they start on August 6th or 8th. I'm really excited about the Olympics this year, I have always enjoyed watching them but for some reason this year I'm really excited about it. I mean the Olympics is an event where all the athletics around the world display their unbelieveable talents. My favorite part is probably the opening and closing cermonies. But there is a bummer about this Olympics. The IOC, the International Olympic Committee has decided to eliminate the Softball program out of the 2012 olympics, hopefully they realize how stupid this decision is and bring it back in the 2016 Olympics. You can sign a petition on http://www.backsoftball.com/ take the time and sign it please, I play softball and hate to think that y favorite sport isn't going to be part of the Olympics.
2008 Olympic Roster named: Coach Pia Sundhage named the 2008 Olympic Roster. Nine players who competed on the 2004 Olympic roster were named and the other nine are 1st timers. Tobin Heath, Amy Rodriguez and Rachel Buehler are competing in their first ever world championships at the senior level.
GOALKEEPERS (2): Nicole Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa.), Hope Solo (Richland, Wash.)
DEFENDERS (6): Rachel Buehler (Del Mar, Calif.), Lori Chalupny (St. Louis, Mo.), Stephanie Cox (Elk Grove, Calif.), Kate Markgraf (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), Heather Mitts (Cincinnati, Ohio), Christie Rampone (Point Pleasant, N.J.)
MIDFIELDERS (7): Shannon Boxx (Redondo Beach, Calif.), Tobin Heath (Basking Ridge, N.J.), Angela Hucles (Virginia Beach, Va.), Carli Lloyd (Delran, N.J.), Heather O’Reilly (East Brunswick, N.J.), Lindsay Tarpley (Kalamazoo, Mich.), Aly Wagner (San Jose, Calif.)
FORWARDS (3): Natasha Kai (Kahuku, Hawaii), Amy Rodriguez (Lake Forest, Calif.), Abby Wambach (Rochester, N.Y.)
Abby is 2 goals away from 100: If you follow women's soccer you know that Abby Wambach is two goals away from 100. This is an accomplishment that has been reached by a select few women, including US players like Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly, Michelle Akers, and Tiffany Milbrett. Abby is going to reach the mark this year and possible by the next few games. Good luck to her!!
USWNT in Europe: The US women's team is currently in Europe getting ready for two matches against Norway and Sweden, they are played on July 2nd and the 5th. If you recall the team just got back from Korea after competing in the 2nd annual Peace Queen Cup. The ladies won the championship thanks to a big time goal from Angela Hucles in the 93rd minute against Canada.
USWNT vs. Brazil: Lastly the ladies are playing two more domestic games against Brazil in the United States before they leave for Beijing. First they play on July 13th then on the 16th, both games are on tv, the first game is on ESPN and the other is going to be on the Fox Soccer Channel. You can go to http://www.ussoccer.com/ to find out more information and schedule times for the games.
Candace Parker dunks..TWICE and I Expect Great: Last week LA Sparks Rookie Candace Parker dunked in a game actually she dunked in two games. It was the first time in six years that a women had dunked in the professional game, that being Parker's teammate Lisa Leslie.
Now I'm going to talk about those Expect Great commericals..at first I thought they were really corny but after seeing the new ones with Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi in it..I enjoy watching them with out feeling a little awkward. I certainly "Expect Great" and now I'm seeing it. Visit http://www.wnba.com/ to find out when you can catch the games.
Well I think that's it for now. I'm going to continuely keep you informed about the US in the Olympics and possibly about my crazy life. On Wednesday I'm leaving for camp so you won't hear from me until Sunday night. Everyone have a great Forth of July weekend and stay safe..btw both my parents were born on the 4th..how weird is that!!
Well peace out and remember smiles are free,
Corey

heroes, no not the show
Anyway I told you that I would write about something more interesting than yesterday's blog so I'm going to write about my heroes. One of them being my mom, then again whose mom isn't there hero?? I have my sports heroes and heroines and then there are my plain and ordinary heroes. Well as I said yesterday...I'm a USA Women's soccer team fan and to be honest they aren't that well known. I mean if you don't play soccer or watch it then you probably have no idea who I'm talking about. The US women's team was established in 1985 but didn't start playing regularly until 1987. In 1991 they played in the first ever M&M's FIFA Women's World Cup and they went on to win it, in 1996 they won the Olympic gold medal for the first time, women's soccer was just put into the Olympic that year, and in 1999 as many you probably know as the day that "chick" ripped her shirt off and showed her bra, but it was so much more than that...that was the year that this American women put women's soccer on the map and created greats like Abby Wambach, Marta, and Birgit Prinz. Thanks to Brandi Chastain that moment was ours and made ever single female, old or young, feel so free and strong!! In 2004 they won the Olympic gold medal and sent out the "Fab Five;" Kristine Lilly, Joy Fawcett, Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, and Brandi Chastain, like the champions that they are. Kristine Lilly is the only one still playing, she is actually pregnant so she is taking a year off but hopes to come back. This women are my heroes because they have and continue to do so, give so much and all for the love of the game and most importantly themselves and their fans.
My other most notably heroes are the soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanstan because if it weren't for them I wouldn't be able to write this blog. Those men and women define everything of what we know as our rights. They defend our country to protect us, and yes that includes the people you criticize our troops, just to make sure we are safe. Some people just dropped what they were doinf in THEIR lives to defend OUR country and OUR safety. I will forever owe those men and women bravely defend our country my deepest and dearest thanks...because remember freedom isn't free.
There are many more but they are the ones that stand out. My history teacher told me the other day that we should always choose your heroes wisely! So the next time you hear something about Britney Spears or Paris Hilton remember that there is a soldier overseas risking his or her life for you. I would choose those soldiers anyday!
Well I guess that's all for now, I will try to write tomorrow but can't make any promises...I have a history class tomorrow night and will be busy. Peace out my little homies and Nikki thanks for reading my blog, I love you and will miss you dearly when you move out :(
Peace out and remember Smiles are Free,

Welcome!!
This first blog is kinda of a get to know me blog. My name is Corey and I'm 19, I'm in college and majoring in Web Design. I have many beliefs and one of them is that everyone is created equal; be they men, women, black, white, and so on. I'm a feminist and proud to be one, if you have a problem with that I guess you're going to have to deal with it. I love to play and watch sports, I play softball. Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, and even the Pirates are my favorite sports teams as well as the UNC Tarheels (mostly just a women's soccer fan but I like the basketball teams). The USA Women's soccer team is the best and they are all my heros.
I live in a big house and it gets pretty hectic around so this blog is kinda of a stress reliever, so you will have to deal with me here for a while, I will probably posted almost everyday but I can't make no promises, I guess that will leave you with checking this out daily, tell your friends and have them tell their friends, my URL is http://leftysloungearound.blogspot.com.
I'm going to be the most random person you will read about..I will write about everything and probably anything that effects me. You will find out that I'm pretty crazy and maybe a little dorky but hey I'm funny. If you have a topic and want me to write about it, leave me a comment and I'll do my best to fill your requests. Well I guess that is all for now, I will write tomorrow and it will be better than this one..haha I promise that!
Well peace out my little homies and remember Smiles are Free!
Peace,
Corey aka Lefty
